The Cedarcrest boys basketball team beat Lakewood on Friday, Feb. 4, to clinch the league title.
The team lagged in the first quarter, 11-18, but took off in the second quarter. Colton Rekers finshed the first half with a 3-point shot at the buzzer to put the Red Wolves up 36-27. The boys exploded in the third, adding 30, and finished strong, 83-67.
Andrew Alness finished with 21 points including five three pointers in the game. Colton Rekers finished with 16 points and hit four three-pointers . Zach Taylor had 15 points, finishing with a game-high nine assists and three steals. Chris Dowd played a great second half with nine points and Justin Houser played great defense on Lakewood’s best player, coach Micah Rieke told the Record.
The Red Wolves boys host Anacortes at home, 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11, for the first round of the district playoffs.
“The boys are flying high and they definitely earned the conference title,” Rieke said. “They worked hard all season. Now it’s time to focus on the playoffs.”
