The Mount Si High School football team will be making an appearance in the state 3A playoffs for the first time since 2006, thanks to a historic night from a senior running back.

Sean Snead ran for nearly 200 yards and a school-record five touchdowns, as the Wildcats steamrolled the Peninsula Seahawks 33-9 on Saturday, Nov. 8 at Roy Anderson Field in Purdy, just outside Gig Harbor.

The win by Mount Si in the opening round game sends them into the 16-team state bracket as the West Central District’s #4 seed.

Mount Si opened the scoring right away in the first quarter, as Snead ran it in from four yards out. With a point after from Tucker Edwards-King, it was 7-0. Snead then ran for scores from six and 34 yards out in the second quarter, to help make the score 19-3 at halftime.

Snead went back to work in the fourth quarter, running it in from six and 14 yards out to put it away for the Wildcats. An eight-yard pass reception by receiver Jacob Passion from quarterback JR Grosshans was the big score of the game for Peninsula, but by that time, it was all done, and Mount Si was off to play Eastside Catholic in round one this week.

In addition to the five touchdowns, Snead also now holds school records for most rushing yards in a season with 1,565; and most points scored in a game, with 30. The game was televised on Comcast “On-Demand,” and Snead was the channel’s player of the game. Wildcat fans who want to see the game can find it there, but you will need to have digital cable in order to receive this service.

The Wildcats will play the Crusaders, the Metro League champions and SeaKing #2 seed, either Friday or Saturday, with the game likely at Memorial Stadium in Seattle.
