Driver’s didn’t make changes to bus schedule

Letter to the Editor.

To parents of Snoqualmie Valley School District:

This letter is to the parents and students regarding bus transportation

during the first week of school in the Snoqualmie Valley School District

No. 410. This letter is from more than a few drivers who felt it necessary

to respond to the “Glitch” letter from a parent in the local Valley Record

newspaper (Sept. 14). We felt genuine sympathy and understanding to that

parent and to all the parents that letter represented. We wish to thank that

parent, and all the parents, who still greeted us with a smile and with

some understanding that we were not the ones who chose to change service

areas, or times for pickups and pickup locations.

As bus drivers, we are given route sheets and need to follow them to

assure an organized and safe ride for your children. We are not the ones

who decide which roads to service, where to stop our bus or even which bus

is assigned to the routes. Last year the district hired a person to be the

route specialist. This position has been changed to the assistant to the

transportation supervisor this year. Drivers know that this assistant to the

transportation supervisor, under the guidance of the supervisor, is the one

who prepared and designed the “new” routes that we were given to drive

the first day of school. Since those first few days of school, many of the

drivers have stepped up and helped reorganize their routes and, once again,

are able to focus their time and energy to driving your children to school in

a safe and timely manner.

If ever you have a concern about your student and their

transportation, remember that we can listen and would love to help, but you need

to call the transportation or the district office. As drivers, we are not

authorized to make changes. Changes need to be cleared through the

transportation supervisor.

Thank you again for all the support you have shown us, your

drivers, during this hectic time and for taking a moment to read this letter. We

obviously love your kids and our jobs. We hope the rest of the year is a

smooth one.

Signed: a majority of the school bus drivers

from Snoqualmie Valley School District No. 410.
