The North Benders, a team of sixth-grade Snoqualmie Valley girls, took first place at the annual Turkey Shoot Soccer Tournament, held recently in Mukilteo.

Nicole Acker scored with 10 minutes left in the game, and the North Benders held on to win the girls U-12/U-13 championship, 1-0.

Coaching staff said the team played terrific defense over the weekend, allowing only three goals in four games with great goaltending from Hannah Wilhelm, Jane Huestis and Sarah Kirschner.

The North Benders also finished first in their league and ended the season with a record of 10 wins, two losses and two ties. Most of the girls attend Twin Rivers Middle School in North Bend.

The Turkey Shoot attracts recreational teams from all over Western Washington.
