25 Years Ago: Thursday, August 2, 1984

• Staff and patrons at the Sno-Valley Senior Center in Carnation were left with a bad feeling Wednesday when they discovered that someone had broken in during the night and stolen all the cash on hand. The break-in itself must have taken several minutes, as the window through which the thief entered is extremely small. Even a small person would have had to ease himself through the gap.

50 Years Ago: Thursday, July 30, 1959

• The body of Daniel Pempiet, of Seattle, missing since June 28 when he was spilled from a boat in the Snoqualmie River, was found Sunday afternoon. Howard Bey, fishing from a boat, spotted the body in six feet of water.

• It was a mighty long arm that lifted the enormous sign into place over the Mar-T Cafe (now Twede’s Cafe) marquee Monday morning. The sign adds a splash of color to North Bend’s great bright way.

75 Years Ago: Thursday, August 2, 1934

• The reopening of the Quality Bakery in Snoquamlmie last Saturday was a success far beyond the fondest expectations of its sponsors. A check kept on the number attending showed that 1,300 people from all parts of the Valley were present at the opening, and did they have a good time, inspecting the bakery and asking questions about the machinery.

• The Snoqualmie Valley Indians will hold a pow-wow on the baseball grounds at Tolt, Aug. 4. Dances will be given by several different tribes including the Lost Tribe of Rainier, the Puyalli Yakama Tribe and the Darrington Tribe. The public is invited to attend this pow-wow, which has always attracted visitors from all parts of this country.
