Arnold Shain and Scott Krahling, the men behind the new Fall City Roadhouse, are out to give people an added dining destination in the Valley.

Shaine and Krahling have noticed that urban Seattle alone has three times the number of restaurants as the Eastside. They figure local people could use more choices.

“Fall City is no different,” Shain said.

Their new restaurant and lounge is slated to open in mid-June in the former location of The Colonial Inn, a storied two-story inn and restaurant overlooking the Snoqualmie River at the Fall City bridge, at the hopping corner of Highway 202 and the Preston/Fall City Road.

Construction workers are putting the finishing touches on the historic structure, which is getting all new equipment for the establishment. It will have seven guest rooms and a banquet room on the second floor.

The owners purchased the building with additional property in March of 2005, and had to install an extensive new septic system and purchase adjacent property to move forward with their plans.

Other additions included substantial seismic upgrades to make sure the window-covered building survives in the event of an earthquake.

“It’s a cool old building,” said Krahling, adding that he and Shain are in for the long term, willing to put in money to fix up the roadhouse.

The original building dates from the 1920s, when it was a one-story eatery serving hungry travelers on their way down the Sunset Highway, which ran through Fall City at the time. In the 1930s, the second floor was added as an inn.
