Construction work on Casino Snoqualmie halted for the day on Monday, April 21, as members of Sheet Metal Workers Local Union 66 staged a picket protest against a subcontractor’s use of non-union stainless steel kitchen installation laborers at the site.

The construction site superintendent said casino contractor Skanska uses all union work, and the Snoqualmie Authority “supports that fully.” Skanska met with representatives of the Snoqualmie Authority and Local 66 to resolve the issue.

Local 66 picketers said Skil Fab, the stainless steel contractor, was not paying standard wages and benefits for the area.

“We had negotiations with Skanska to try to help motivate the owner of the company to give the guys the benefits and wages,” said Local 66 member Sam Hem.

Work resumed the next day.
