Puget Sound Energy is hosting an open house, 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18, at its Snoqualmie Operations Center, 35413 S.E. Douglas St., to share information about improvements coming over the next five years at its Snoqualmie Falls hydroelectric plant.

Utility representatives will be on hand to discuss the major upgrades planned for PSE’s power-generating infrastructure at Snoqualmie Falls, much of it dating to the late 19th and early 20th century. Information also will be provided on the significant enhancements planned for PSE’s Snoqualmie Falls Park.

Park construction is scheduled to begin in September. Other redevelopment projects will start in 2010 and continue, in stages, into 2014. Projects include replacing or refurbishing the turbine generators in PSE’s two Snoqualmie Falls powerhouses; replacing the “penstocks” that pipe water to the powerhouses; replacing the existing diversion structure just upstream from the falls with a two-foot-lower structure; enhancing the landscaping of Snoqualmie Falls Park; and improving the park’s amenities.
