looks at ways to go green

Going green is the big theme of the upcoming Snoqualmie Valley Economic Development Conference.

The conference, planned for 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, at the TPC Snoqualmie Ridge Clubhouse, will explore how to link environmental practices with public policy.

A panel discussion, moderated by Snoqualmie Mayor Matt Larson, includes Dave Whitley of Nuprecon, Dave Dorothy of Quadrant, Susan Thoman of Cedar Grove Organic Recycling, Gerard Maloney of Earthheat, Martin Volken of Pro Tour Guiding and Matt Mattson of the Snoqualmie Tribe.

Congressman Jay Inslee will speak on “Launching an American Clean Energy Revolution,” Congressman Dave Reichert will give a talk on “Global Economy and the Environment,” and Andy Wappler will speak about going “Cleaner, Greener, and Smarter.”

North Bend yoga shala marks first anniversary

The North Bend Yoga Shala is celebrating the beginning of its second year in its new location at 325 Bendigo Boulevard N., North Bend.

Owners said the shala has enjoyed tremendous growth in its first year, and has added new classes to support the growing community of yoga practitioners here in the Valley.

A 6 a.m. one-and-a-half-hour class for commuters and early-risers is now on the schedule. In addition to an increase in the number of classes for beginners and more advanced students, the shala now has a yoga wall, used for applications including therapeutics and restorative poses.

This fall, the shala plans to offer specialized workshops, including “Low-Back Therapeutics: Freedom From Pain” on Friday, Oct 24.

Matt and Cherene Queen are the founders and teachers at the shala, located at the corner of Highway 202 and Bendigo Boulvard. They each have 20 years of dedicated practice, study, and apprenticeship with a senior advanced yoga teachers trained by B.K.S. Iyengar.

New hire joins team at

Shendao Acupuncture

Shendao Acupuncture in North Bend is adding a second acupuncturist.

Bonnie Koenig, a licensed acupuncturist, joins Denise Fiedler at Shendao Acupuncture, which operates inside Straight Chiropractic, 249 Main Ave. S. in North Bend.

Koenig and Fiedler will now offer more hours. Koenig’s extensive herbal training will allow the practitioners to more fully serve their patients with internal disorders.

Chamber visitor center hours extended

The Snoqualmie Valley Chamber of Commerce’s visitor information center season has been extended.

Starting this month, the center, located at the North Bend train depot, will be open on weekends, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, through Oct. 26.

A Chamber After Hours event is planned Wednesday, Sept. 24, hosted by the Northwest Railway Museum and catered by Snoqualmie Fall Brewery & Taproom.
