I’m not sure what disturbs me more: Elected representatives who push a tax bill they tout will be relief for working class people, or gullible voters who buy those lies and support a bill that will demonstrably hurt themselves.
Corporations and the 1-percenters will get over 80 percent of the cut proceeds, and the middle class will pay higher taxes and get less for it through severe cuts in their deductions and social services.
Trumpublicans promise their tax bill will stimulate the economy at a time when corporations are making record profits, the Dow is at a record high, and we have “full employment.” How does our economy need further stimulation?
Are corporations building new facilities to create jobs? No, they’re spending this lucre on multi-billion dollar hostile takeovers of their competitors. The estate tax? Of 138 million U.S. taxpayers, only 113,000 pay this tax. It’s not a “death tax,” it’s an “Ivanka and Jared” tax.
We’ve been down this road before. It’s called the “trickle down theory” because a deluge goes to moneyed interests, leaving only a trickle for the majority — and it’s a debunked theory. They say, “a rising tide raises all boats.” That may be true, but what about all of us who can’t afford to buy a boat?
Call your Congressional representatives. Tell them, “Stop this tax bill!”
