Dear Terrie, Ken and the Kids Cook Crew:
I just wanted to express my sincere thanks and gratitude for your wonderful family dinner December 7, and for the entire Kids Cook Program experience with the Carnation Elementary Students.
Speaking as an educator and collaborator with your program, I was so impressed with how well organized and how highly engaged the students were. You could see the joy on each child’s face as they served their delicious and nutritious food to their families. Each dish they served they would remind me which kids prepared it and wait for my reaction. I also loved the nutritional facts and information shared on the “soap-box” and the educational piece provided by you and Ken.
From the point of view as a parent of a child who got to attend the program, I was very impressed as well. Our son, Kyler, has always been a very picky eater (dislikes most vegetables) and is very choosy about what activities or clubs he will be involved in absolutely loved every minute of Kids Cook and looked forward to it every week. As a matter of fact, I think he’ll be let down that it’s come to an end. He has been sharing he new-found knowledge with his family every week and comes home highly enthusiastic saying things like, “Mom, wait till you taste these breakfast burritos.” “Dad, you really shouldn’t be drinking that soda. Do you know how bad it is for you?” “We should stop buying these packaged hashbrowns. I know how to make them with REAL potatoes and they taste WAY better!”
Anyway, I just wanted to thank you personally and let you know how much I appreciate your energy, enthusiasm and passion for the health and wellbeing of the children in our community. It’s a much needed and often missing or overlooked part of our culture and it takes community members like you, who are willing to “stand on their soapbox” and make a difference!
Please let me know of any other ways we can be involved in helping you promote and support this program in the future. You have our full support!
Doug Poage,
Carnation Principal and father
