Letter | Thanks for another fabulous Fall City Day

Father’s Day is a day to celebrate the wonderful dads in our lives, but for the Fall City Day committee it is a sigh of relief for a job well done!

Father’s Day is a day to celebrate the wonderful dads in our lives, but for the Fall City Day committee it is a sigh of relief for a job well done!

We have so many people to thank for giving back to our community.

Most of our numbers were down because school let out before the event. The same blood, sweat and tears goes into preparations for the day so we hope next year we will have more people if we move it to the weekend before school release day.

Perry and Sharon Wilkins, Kirk and Sophie Harris and principals Kirk Dunckel and Monica Phillips organized all the volunteers and almost 700 runners with ease.

The Linds were our Grand Marshals (made possible by Terri D.) and were driven in the car they courted in, what a special story.

Sean and Renee Christiansen of Young Life put on a fun watermelon-eating contest. Libby, Laurie, Jane and Nikki did a superb job working with our parade entrants. Bill A. and Dan E. made sure our parade stage and other support equipment was in working order all day, and Gene Stevens loaned us his trailer.

Lee, Terry, Kevin, and Steve drove the road closure crew, with Dwight Mitchell, Matthew Todd and Cooper in tow. Chris Butler helped me paint the vendor booth numbers on the road.

Officers Brent Naylor, Bob Conner and Mark Orendorff, along with the Explorer crew, were responsible for our safety.

I am so lucky to have Cheri and Tanya helping to settle in the vendors, so I could tool around in the gator helping other committees. Thanks, Twin Rivers Golf Course/Richard Rutledge, for loaning me my wheels!

Anji was able to get Sweet Treats ice cream company trucks for the Kiddie Parade, and CJW Enterprises pulled the trailer for the hayride.

Our T-shirts were awesome, thanks to Darin Donaldson’s design. Melody, Cynthia and Bryce Tjossem sold lots of them at our booth and more are available at the Hauglies’ business office.

Duck Derby was a success even though we had to change the launch procedure. Good job Jane, Laurie, Kevin and crew. We missed Amy J. but she procured many raffle items for us.

Carnival inflatables were supplied by Party Hoppers in North Bend and run by the MSHS wrestling team.

The band in the park was arranged by Vanessa and rocked all afternoon. Raging River Saloon, Gordon Construction, Rainier Recycling, El Caporal, Creative Business Advantage and Farmhouse Market supplied behind-the-scenes support. Many other businesses make sacrifices because they are either closed or their business is hampered by the road closure. We are very appreciative for their community spirit.

As you can see a lot of people are needed to put on this event every year. We enjoy a delicious dinner (thanks to Anji for putting it together) and great camaraderie as our reward.  Oh, and a shirt too!

See you next year. Have a fun and safe summer.
