During my daily dog walks in the Upper Valley, I get to experience the wonder of this area.
This winter, we are fortunate to be a resting area for the Cackling Goose. These birds migrate from the Arctic Circle every year to winter in fields in Washington, Oregon and California.
You can hear them coming in great flying V’s, making a higher-pitched honk than a Canada Goose. So pay attention when you hear birds overhead in the morning and evening. Watch for them in the fields and imagine them making this very long trip every year. You may discover many other wintering birds here too. Enjoy.
