Neighbors of school district office would gladly trade for DirtFish, concert noise | Letter

My intention is not to trivialize persons’ quality of life caused by DirtFish or anything else, however I may trade my annoyance for DirtFish noise.

It is 6 a.m., every morning, five days a week, 50-plus, large diesel-engine vehicles come to life in our residential neighborhood. The clatter and roar of the engines start with 5 to 15 minutes at idle, the fumes they produce last even longer. This can last up to 45 minutes before they leave for their first run of the day. They leave different times, so this can last up to an hour. In a couple of hours they are back and each backs into its stall, each with a back-up alarm blaring from 15 to 30 seconds. They return at various times so this can last an hour.

This ritual starts over at about 2 p.m. If there is an evening dispatch the back-up alarms can be heard as late as 11:30 p.m.

With that many vehicles needing drivers, that many cars invade our neighborhood each day. Most park on the streets so as to be a large inconvenience for the residents. The parking situation is aggravated by the 30-plus daily facility employees that do no use the off-street parking provided.
