Too much divisiveness in Valley Record political cartoon

I wish to comment on the political cartoon run on the March 31 opinion page. The cartoon depicts a gathering of angry elephants (Republicans) who threw a brick through the office window of a donkey (Democrat).

I wish to comment on the political cartoon run on the March 31 opinion page. The cartoon depicts a gathering of angry elephants (Republicans) who threw a brick through the office window of a donkey (Democrat). I can only assume that this is in reference to the recent vandalisms at the offices of Democratic leaders. I also assume that the artist is trying to use the elephants to represent the Tea Party activists. First off, a majority of Tea Party activists self-identify as independents. The minority identify themselves as Republicans and Democrats — yes, Democrats! Secondly, nobody has been identified, arrested, or charged in the vandalisms at the Democratic representative’s offices. There are many liberals angry with the Democratic party over the passing of the health care bill. They feel that it did not go far enough. One could assume the suspects in the vandalism are just as likely to be from the left end of the political spectrum as they are from the right. However, there was an arrest in relation to the shooting that occurred at Repbulican representative Eric Cantor’s office. A man posting videos in which he was threatening the life of Cantor and his family was found to be an Obama supporter who donated money to his presidential campaign. I, like most Americans I know, condemn any act of violence. I can only assume that, this week, your cartoon will depict a donkey in an Obama T-shirt shooting through the window of an elephant’s office — right? It is irresponsible to perpetuate the divisiveness that is going on in this country right now.
