A letter to the editor (“Time for a new fire station,” Jan. 12) insisted the North Bend Fire Station was built in 1941 and is 70 years old. The metal building was absolutely, positively built in 1970— this makes me wonder about the rest of the letter.
The building was built with a future paid department in mind. It had two large restrooms with showers, a small bedroom, and a really nice kitchen and a very large open space.
The firefighters are good people and do a really good job, but according to their Web site, they only work 8 to 10 days a month, do they really need separate bedrooms?
And why isn’t the building in good repair ? If the last paid North Bend Chief, Jerry Venera, was still in charge, the building would be in good repair and spotlessly clean.
We are not going to tear it down, so eventually we are going to pay for repairs, why not now?
There are other needs for the Valley, I’m not sure this is one of them.
