Live theatergoers in Preston have their own version of Charles Dickens’ “Christmas Carol” on the boards.
Adapted by Romulous Linney, the timeless story is being performed at Reach Eastside Performing Arts, a first-time collaboration between Reach and Theatre Black Dog. The play is directed by Susan Bradford, featuring Issaquah Village Theatre veteran Richard Payne as the cantankerous Ebenezer Scrooge.
A talented cast plays multiple roles: Cristie Coffing, Greg and Ike Balmer, Tamera, Christopha, Greata, Anna Boraninan, Bjarne Steensgard and Kenna Boyer of Snoqualmie; Janet Payne of Issaquah; Bob Hise and Janet MacIntosh of Fall City and Emmet Michie of Seattle.
Theatre Black Dog has performed in diverse venues throughout the Eastside and Seattle, including, Freehold Theatre, Theatre Balagan, and Isadora’s Cafe in Snoqualmie. TBD’s last production was Harold Pinter’s dark comedy, “The Birthday Party,” at Freehold Theatre.
The company’s director likes to research deeply the author’s intention and background, and how the play reflects him under the surface of the story.
Linney’s adaptation sheds new light on an age- old tale. Be prepared for surprises, and remember: it’s a ghost story.
Show dates are 7:30 p.m. December 10, 11, 17, 18, 22, 23, 29 and 30, at 7:30 p.m., with matinee at 2 p.m. on Dec. 12.
Suggested donations are $12 for children and seniors, $15 for adults.
Reach Eastside Performing Arts is located at 30450 SE 84th St, Ste. 1 in Preston.
