Madeline Dai, a 14-year-old Fall City resident and Chief Kanim Middle School student, is the sixth Sno Valley Idol Junior champion.
Dai took top vocal honors in the youth singing competition finals, held Friday, March 26, at Si View Community Center.
This year’s contestants put on an incredible show, and judges David Harris, Susanna Fuller and Danny Kolke had the unenviable task of scoring contestants on natural ability, quality of performance, showmanship and audience appeal, narrowing down the field to three finalists for an audience vote.
Volunteers furiously tallied votes from the crowd of nearly 350 attendees during intermission to determine the outcome. Master of Ceremonies Jeff Warren of State Farm Insurance announced the results.
Dai is not new to the music scene. She’s sung in the school choir since fourth grade, loves singing and has taken formal lessons. She won the audience’s hearts with a striking performance of Ingrid Michaelson’s “The Way I Am.”
The 2010 runner-up is Mikaela Ballard, a seventh grader from Tolt Middle School who entertained the crowd with the song “You’re The One That I Want” from the movie Grease. The third place winner is Abigail Wall, a fifth grader from Snoqualmie Elementary, who sang “Crazier” by Taylor Swift.
Sno Valley Idol Junior is a free event organized by Si View Metro Parks with generous help from volunteers.
