Kids will find a new activity at the Carnation Farmers Market for the month of August. Starting Aug. 1, the market has added a program on the power of produce.
The market has launched a children’s Power of Produce (POP) Club, which engages children in educational activities, conversations with local farmers, farm visits and exposure to new kinds of fruits and vegetables at the market.
Children in the club will take part in a weekly fruit and veggie tasting, a weekly educational activity, receive $2 in market tokens every time they participate and have the option to visit the local Hearth Farm for a tour. All activities are free. Sign up at the market information booth. Registered participants will also receive a free market tote.
The pilot program will run for four weeks during the 2017 market season and the full program will start next summer, and run through the summer market season.
Visit the Carnation Farmers Market on Tuesdays in August to learn more about POP Club, visit www.carnationfarmersmarket.org, or follow the Carnation Farmers Market on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
Funding for the program comes from King County’s Best Starts for Kids grant program. This grant funding is intended to make it easier for kids to eat healthy, exercise, and avoid harmful substances. SnoValley Tilth is one of 17 nonprofits to receive funding from Best Starts for Kids.
