Little pumpkins, pirates, fairies and heroes in the age-5 and younger set will hit the sidewalks of Snoqualmie, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Halloween day, Friday, Oct. 31, for the third annual Downtown Snoqualmie Harvest.

Downtown businesses offer candy, nutritious treats, toys, balloons and other treats in a family-friendly downtown-wide open house.

Participating businesses will have balloons over their doors, and groups of families and little ones, often in costume, are encouraged to make the loop.

“There are little sweet peas, tons of princesses and all the superheroes you can imagine,” said Brenda Huckle, organizer of the downtown candy harvest and owner of Genuine Image Photography. “Their imaginations just go wild. I think they’re so darn cute.”

Huckle helped start the harvest a couple of years ago, as a way for families to connect and meet downtown.

“It’s daylight, it’s safe, it’s clean, and it’s not a long walk,” she said. “It’s an opportunity for people to meet their neighbors.”

The event was designed by merchants as a good way to showcase what they do. The downtown harvest helps make the historic district a destination for visitors. Plus, the harvest helps make the day special for participating businesses.

“I loved it when we dressed up, we decorated,” Huckle said. “It was a magical thing to be out that day.”

Color contest

The event includes a coloring contest, with children invited to color a drawing of a scarecrow. Children can pick up coloring contest forms at participating businesses and venues. Entries should be returned to local businesses by Wednesday, Nov. 5. Winners for the age groups will get their entry posted in the Valley Record’s Nov. 12 edition.
