Mount Si High School photographers finished eighth in the state out of 63 schools in the Washington State High School Photography Competition May 6. This was the best-ever finish for the school, which previously placed ninth overall in 2009.
Three Mount Si photographers had photos that placed. Only 72 total photos of the 3,879 submitted were recognized with first through sixth places in each of 12 categories.
Senior Maddy Trout placed third in Still Life, junior Ruth Liebendorfer placed third in Camera Phone and freshman Janna Price placed fifth in Camera Phone.
Fifteen other Wildcat photos also received state recognition. Junior Maddox Malcolm’s Animal photo earned Select Finalist (within the final 18 photos judged for the six places). He also earned Select honors for a People photo. Select photos are judged within the top 10 percent of the entries in their categories.
Also earning Select honors were junior Emma Williamson (People), sophomore Jacob Zupan (People), senior Addison Egan (Landscape), Senior Dyllan Schilling (two Landscapes), freshman Jackson Kruyt (Landscape), freshman Alana Wells (Abstract), sophomore Dylan Ladd (Camera Phone), freshman Johnny Pownall III (Camera Phone), freshman Sydney Gabel (Camera Phone), senior Connor Bunting (two Portraits) and freshman Chase Ruiz (Still Life).
Inglemoor High School, which annually hosts the competition, finished first, Kentridge second, and Seattle Academy of the Arts third, Lakeside fourth, Meadowdale fifth, Stadium sixth, Tacoma School of the Arts seventh, Mount Si eighth, and Bainbridge, Bothell and Ferris tied for ninth.
