The North Bend Educational and Cultural Association today announced its plans to rename the scholarship the organization awards each spring to local high school students.
“We are pleased to name our scholarship after a beloved volunteer and friend who spent many years with the Festival at Mt Si,” said Jill Massengill, president of the North Bend Educational and Cultural Association (NBECA).
The scholarship, previously known as the Community Service Scholarship, will now be named the Judy K Boyce Memorial Scholarship, said Massengill. The scholarship is awarded to students who demonstrate volunteerism in service to their community.
According to the scholarship documentation, “Judy K Boyce (1956-2016) was a dedicated volunteer to the Festival at Mount Si and long-serving on the Festival Committee. For over 10 years, Judy volunteered with the festival and many other Snoqualmie Valley organizations. Judy always followed through with what she said she would do, and took pride and satisfaction in serving her community. Judy was dedicated to helping make her community a better place for everyone. Working hard to make sure events were successful, Judy was an example to all of us on how to see a task through to the end.”
This year, the organization plans to award scholarships to five graduating students this year between Mount Si High School and Two Rivers School. The organization’s spring auction, 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, March 25, at Si View Community Center, is an opportunity for students and others to volunteer, and supporters to contribute to the scholarship fund. Catering is by the Mount Si Culinary Arts students with music by Mount Jazz Club students.
Donations to the scholarship can be mailed directly to the North Bend Educational and Cultural Association c/o Scholarships, PO Box 1170, North Bend, WA 98045.
