Bags of candy, a spooky night, mysterious bones and an annoying pooch were part of the tapestry of imagination that young poets at Si View came up with in honor of the season.
Members of North Bend resident Jim Curtis’ karate class at Si View Community Center took a departure from the norm in October to try out their poetry skills, with a Halloween twist.
“It’s just to get the kids to go outside the personal boundaries that they may have set for themselves,” said Curtis, the Hanshi or headmaster of Shudokai Karate and Jetsu.
Students were told to write a poem that didn’t have to rhyme, and could be anything they came up with, as long as it wasn’t the typical “roses are red, violets are blue” cliche.
Curtis’ Si View class, for ages 7 through adult, meets 6 to 7 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday at the Si View center, 400 S.E. Orchard Dr. in North Bend. For more information about classes, call (425) 831-1900.
Ghosts and candy
Ghosts and candy
come once a year
Spirits coming
from the shadows,
Children run with bags
full of chocolate
and lollipops
and suckers
At Halloween
Jeff the Halloween Dog
Jeff the Halloween dog
He barks
at my neighbor’s frog
He steals candy
from Bob Randy
As you can see,
he is not very handy
Mr. Jones
I found a pile of bones
They seemed to belong to Mr. Jones.
He was a good fellow.
But now he is a pile of Jello.
When they saw his bones so white
They ran with fright into the night.
They saw no blood that was red.
That’s because he was DEAD!!!
Halloween is a treat
Halloween is a treat,
Halloween is a scare
But if you get scared
You will lose your hair
How Aliens ruled Halloween candy
Ahh! Aliens!
They’re sucking
my Jolly Rancher,
Butter scotch,
Pieces of Hammer
And my brother
Jeff the Parrot
Halloween Poem
Halloween
The dark sky
Candy filling my bag
Pieces of chocolate
Decorated houses
Barking dogs
Halloween!
