“Bride of Leisure Time with Leisure Time,” an old fashioned radio show, returns to Valley Center Stage, 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Nov. 13 and 14, at 119 East North Bend Way atop the Unity Masonic Lodge.
The show, written by local playwright Jamie Gower and performed by Valley-area actors with music by the Cascade Jazz Trio, performing as John Chmaj and the Chmajbees, is reminiscent of 1930’s radio programs.
“These were the main entertainment for families back in the days before television,” said Gary Schwartz, director of Valley Center Stage. “The radio programs of the 30’s were sophisticated productions in their time, and this show is no different. It’s got everything: fun sound effects, hilarious skits, and toe-tapping tunes.”
Bride of Leisure Time with Leisure Time is the fourth installment in the popular “Leisure Time” series produced by Valley Center Stage and written by the skit-spinning, laugh-loving Gower.
This episode features the radio dramas ‘Healing Hospital’ and ‘The Sneak in The Curse of the Golden Retriever,’ complete with breaks for bizarre commercials, sports commentary and catchy riffs. There’s also a visit by a couple of mysterious tourists who make “War of the Worlds” seem eerily prophetic — in a funny way, of course, Glover said.
Tickets are $12.50 for adults and $10 for seniors and students and can be purchased in advance online at www.valleycenterstage.org or at the theater on show nights. Call (425) 831-5667 for more information.
