Repaired Twin Falls Trail to re-open Saturday

Twin Falls Trail will be re-opened to the public this Saturday, May 14, at Olallie State Park.

Twin Falls Trail will be re-opened to the public this Saturday, May 14, at Olallie State Park.

The trail was closed in January 2014 when a landslide destroyed a substantial portion of the route up to Twin Falls. The repaired portion of the trail has been rerouted from the slide area, adding a few hundred feet to the trail but retaining the scenic beauty that made the trail a popular destination. Trail repairs were funded by a grant from the Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office with matching funds provided by Washington State Parks.

The revamped trail promises to be well worth the wait, said Ranger Rick Oakley.

“There’s been a lot of anticipation,” he said. “People are really itching to get back to the river trail.”

The trail wends along the south fork of the Snoqualmie River and past the spectacular Weeks and Twin Falls waterfalls.

The trail repairs are 95 percent complete. Remaining repairs are expected to be completed by July. Visitors are still advised to exercise caution, especially on the upper portions of the trail, which sustained significant storm damage during the winter.

Ollalie State Park is open for day use daily from 6:30 a.m. to dusk. For more information visit http://parks.state.wa.us/555/Olallie.
