Snoqualmie juniors earn spots in Museum of Flight summer residency program

Two Snoqualmie high school juniors, Sean Murphy and Shyam Gandhi, have been selected for a Washington Aerospace Scholars program summer residency at the Museum of Flight in Seattle.

Murphy attends Eastside Catholic High School, Gandhi attends Mount Si High School.

Both were selected for the program’s residency, based on their academic performance in the scholars program’s Phase One curriculum.

In December 2016, they were among the 200 who began competing for a spot in the summer residency sessions by completing 10 NASA and University of Washington designed lessons. Students were able to register to earn five UW credits based on successful completion of the curriculum.

Phase Two is a six-day experience at the Museum of Flight in Seattle this June or July. During these sessions, student teams cooperate to plan a human mission to Mars with support from professional engineers, scientists, university students, and teachers. Participants receive briefings from aerospace professionals, tour engineering facilities, and compete in hands-on engineering challenges.

Student and teacher applications for the 2017-18 program year will be available starting in August at www.museumofflight.org. Participants must be high school juniors and residents of Washington, Oregon or Montana.
