Snoqualmie Valley celebrates Kindness Month in November

It’s part of an effort to support the Youth Suicide Prevention program.

November is the fifth annual Kindness Month in the Snoqualmie Valley.

The Kindness Month designation was given by Empower Youth Network in partnership with the Valley’s cities, the school districts and the Snoqualmie Tribe. Throughout the month, Empower Youth Network will host activities to support #BeKindSV, a campaign it runs through its Youth Suicide Prevention Program.

“[The] Youth Suicide Prevention program, which includes the #BeKindSV campaign, makes our schools, communities and state stronger by facilitating meaningful change through simple acts of kindness,” according to a news release.

Kindness Month coincides with World Kindness Day on Nov. 13. Empower Youth Network asks the community to engage with the campaign throughout the month by using #BeKindSV on social media and participating in a variety of events.

Here are four ways residents can #BeKindSV this November:

Kindness movie at North Bend Theatre: This year’s Kindness Month movie pick is “Charlotte’s Web.” All are invited to attend a free showing of the film from noon to 3 p.m. Nov. 10 at the North Bend Theatre. Free popcorn and soda will also be available.

Nominate a Kindness Ambassador: Residents can nominate a community member in their life who spreads kindness to those around them. Nominees will be recognized with a Community Kindness Award and their stories will be shared throughout the month on Empower Youth Network’s social media accounts. Nominations can be made at empoweryouthnetwork.org/kindness-month.

Purchase a #BeKindSV candle: Snoqualmie Valley Candle Co. is selling #BeKindSV candles, available at Birches Habitat in North Bend and The Black Dog Arts Cafe in Snoqualmie. All proceeds from the candle sales go to Empower Youth Network.

Take a kindness pledge: Local businesses can take a pledge to “make kindness business as usual.” Those who participate will receive a window decal to display at their business and will be named on the #BeKindSV Facebook page. Individuals can also take the #BeKindSV Community Kindness Pledge. Pledges can be found at empoweryouthnetwork.org/kindness-month.
