Fury Construction of North Bend will repair flood damage to Ribary Creek under a new contract awarded Tuesday, Oct. 20, by the North Bend City Council.

The job, passed in a 5-0 vote, would repair creek improvements originally made in 2007 that were damaged in the January 2009 flood.

“Part of that project consisted of stabilizing portions of Ribary Creek that were most severely threatening to adjacent homes,” City Administrator Duncan Wilson said. “Improvements were not meant to protect all properties, but were to stabilize areas that were the worst areas.

Once approved and signed, the contact makes Fury responsible for all repairs.

The channel stabilization project will maintain Ribary Creek in its existing path.

“It could keep flooding from adjacent properties, but it is not one big flood protection project,” Wilson said. “We can’t legally tell someone that they are flood-protected.”
