Early returns in the Nov. 4 general election show the incumbent legislators in the 5th District leading their challengers.

The narrowest margin, in results available Wednesday, Nov. 5, showed Republican Glenn Anderson edging Democratic opponent David Spring for the state House Pos. 2 seat by some 300 votes. Anderson received 13,813 votes, or 52.5 percent of the total vote, while Spring received 13,503 votes, or 49.3 percent.

Anderson’s fellow 5th District incumbents, Rep. Jay Rodne and state Sen. Cheryl Pflug, carried wider margins.

Rodne, in the Pos. 1 seat, received 15,470 votes, or 56 percent, to Democratic challenger Jon Viebrock’s 43 percent. Viebrock received 11,897 votes.

In the state senate race, Pflug had 16,333 votes, or 57 percent, to Democrat Phyllis Huster’s 11,949 votes, or 42 percent.
