SNOQUALMIE – By the time you read this Jay Rodne will be stationed at a military base in California, awaiting orders to proceed to a destination he does not know when or even if he will come back from.
He understands his job, he loves the people he will be with and he knows he will be fighting for his country. Other than that, he doesn’t know much about how things will turn out in the future.
“It’s all very fluid,” Jay said. “Depending on the geo-political situation, I could be back in two weeks or be sent overseas right away.”
Earlier this month Jay got the notice he and his wife Heidi had been waiting for since the Sept. 11 attacks in 2001. As an active reservist in the U.S. Marine Corps, it was a deployment Jay and his family could see in the distance but could not know when the day would come. Finally he was called to active duty and was scheduled to arrive at Camp Pendleton in California on Monday, Jan. 27.
