Eastside Fire and Rescue and units from the Redmond, Fall City and Duvall fire departments were called to the scene of a barn fire in the 7000 block of 328th Avenue Northeast just outside the city limits of Carnation on Thursday, Jan. 19. The call was reported at 4:39 a.m. by a motorist who spotted the barn burning while driving along state Route 203.
When firefighters arrived at the scene there was extensive smoke, and flames were burning through the barn. Road access and the water supply challenged firefighting capabilities. The closest hydrant in the area was approximately one mile away from the fire scene and water tenders had to shuttle in water to fight the fire. A propane tank along the southwest corner of the barn also posed concerns for fire crews. Firefighters worked to keep the 500-gallon propane tank cooled while extinguishing the barn fire.
The property owners reported that no one was in the barn at the time of the fire, but several sheep were lost in the blaze. Two herding dogs were also initially reported to be missing, but have since been found safe.
An investigator with the King County Fire Marshal’s Office was also called to the scene. The cause of the fire was reported to be electrical in nature.
