If you’ve ever desired to dabble in the Japanese comic book art called manga, the North Bend library has an upcoming event that just might draw you in.

The Japanese comic style gets brought to life at 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15, at the North Bend library during “Manga 100: The Basics of Faces.”

Aspiring artists, ages 12-18, will learn how to draw manga-style faces with guidelines and direction from professional Manga creators of the Bothell-based NDP Comics.

Sisters Nicole and Danielle Pelham, owners of NDP – the name happens to be an acronym for “New Destiny Productions” – will show teens how manga is created.

Danielle is the artist, while Nicole is the writer. They have put out the “As Told By” fairy tale manga series, and recently published a guide to drawing the comics titled “So You Want to be a Manga Artist,” available online. The sisters have also taught more than 300 manga-creation classes since 2001 at venues ranging from schools and libraries to Seattle’s Bumbershoot festival.
