The Carnation City Council is looking to fill an upcoming vacancy and is taking applications until Aug. 1.
City residents interested in the position can apply by sending a resume and cover letter, stating why you want to serve the city, via email to City Manager Ana Cortez. Applications are due by Aug. 1 at 5 p.m. to ana.cortez@carnationwa.gov.
The vacancy comes as Carnation Mayor Kim Lisk will be moving out of town and vacating her position 4 council seat on Aug. 31. Lisk was reelected to her third, four-year term in 2021 and her position was not set to expire until 2025.
Lisk’s council seat will be filled via appointment of the city council, with the new member taking their oath of office at the council’s first meeting in September.
Starting Sept. 1, Deputy Mayor Jim Ribail will step in as interim-mayor to replace Lisk.
It is unclear how long Ribail will hold the position in the interim, as the city does not currently have any clear policy on how the position is filled following a vacancy. The council is expected to develop a policy in the coming months.
