Pearl Moore has a uniquely efficient putting style. She eyes the ball and hole, then gently swings the club with one hand (either one will do), backhanded. More often than not, she sinks it.
“You never want to get into a putting contest with her,” said Sharon Caldwell, fellow women’s golf club member at Cascade Golf Course. “She’ll take you for all you’ve got in your pockets.”
Pearl, the sole charter member of the women’s club at North Bend’s Cascade Golf Course still living, golfs nine holes every Wednesday morning at the course. She turned 90 Sept. 18.
“I love it,” Pearl exclaimed, a broad smile beaming on her face. “I’m proof of the fact that you can just keep golfing forever.”
Pearl was born to Preston pioneers Olaf and Hulda Carlson, who came to Preston in 1898 and 1899.
