North Bend City Councilmember Mary Miller officially announced her candidacy for mayor, becoming the only candidate to challenge incumbent Rob McFarland.
In a statement announcing her campaign, Miller, a 32-year-resident of North Bend, touted her decades of volunteer work at local nonprofits, Snoqualmie Valley schools and festivals as well as her photography work and support of the arts.
“North Bend is unlike anywhere else. It is an extraordinary and special place, a preeminent natural playground, but it is much, much more than that,” she said. “It is our cherished home, and we need to be respectful and caring with our decision-making as we move forward.
“By working together, we can champion North Bend and shape a future that we can all be proud of.”
Miller had already filed paperwork for the mayor’s office with King County Elections back in May, but had yet to officially announce her campaign until this month.
Miller was first elected to the city council in 2019, and prior to that, spent four years on the city’s Planning Commission.
She works in the construction industry and is a freelance photographer. She graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in telecommunications and advertising.
