Valley residents are invited to help clean up their community, at the 2008 fall recycling event, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23 at Mount Si High School’s back parking lot.
All King County households are eligible to participate. The event is funded with grants from the King County Local Hazardous Waste Management Program, King County Solid Waste Division, and Washington State Department of Ecology.
On that day, North Bend’s Public Works Department will accept the residential household waste materials listed below for recycling:
• Styrofoam packaging
• Clean, plastic one- and two-gallon plant pots.
• Textiles and household goods (unacceptable or large items will be refused).
• Used motor oil, filters, and antifreeze.
• Car, truck and marine batteries, and household batteries.
Fees will be charged for some items. Tires are $1 each, $2 on rims, $5 for a split rim, $10 for truck tires, $20 for truck tires with rims. Electronics such as DVD players, VCRs and printers are $5, televisions are $20, console TVs are $25, and large projection TVs are $50. Refrigerators and freezers are $20 each.
Scrap metal, including hot water tanks, stoves, microwaves, washers, dryers, cast iron sinks and tubs, iron, steel and auto parts, will be accepted. Lawnmowers and barbecues must have fuel and oil removed. No propane tanks or plastic-cased appliances will be accepted.
