MONROE — Benjamin J. May of Duvall drowned in Cedar Ponds near Monroe about a week ago, the Snohomish County Medical Examiner confirmed.

May, 17, had been cliff diving in the area on May 2, according to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.

He reportedly dove into the water and didn’t resurface. Rescue teams searched for the boy that evening and for days after but had trouble because of dangerous water conditions.

May’s body was recovered around 3:30 p.m. Friday, almost a week later.

Three other people have drowned at that location in the past two years, according to the sheriff’s office. They were a 26-year-old Monroe man, a 28-year-old Everett woman and a 22-year-old Monroe woman.
