Encompass’ popular parent workshop “Emotion Coaching” is returning to the Ridge. This workshop, which helps parents learn how to tune into their children’s feelings as well as their own, repeatedly has filled up every time it has been offered.

Encompass is bringing this free workshop to local families from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 11, at the new Snoqualmie Valley YMCA , 35018 S.E. Ridge St., Snoqualmie. The workshop was presented three and a half months ago, Feb. 28, at the same location.

Designed for parents of preschoolers and grade-schoolers, the workshop is free, but online registration is necessary at the Encompass web site. Only 30 slots are available.

Developed by the Talaris and Gottman institutes, “Emotion Coaching” is taught by Kerry Beymer, a certified Parenting Counts (Talaris) instructor and Parenting Education and Support manager for Encompass. The idea, she says, is for parents to become their children’s “emotion coach.”

“This evidence-based program will improve your communication and relationship with your child,” Beymer says. “Everyone has emotions, especially children, and what children do with their emotions is crucial for optimal child development.”

Those attending will learn how to tune into their children’s feelings and their own, use emotional moments as opportunities to connect with their children, (3) respect their children’s feelings

by taking time to listen carefully, help their children identify and name emotions and, best of all, explore solutions to problems together.

For more information, interested parents can call Beymer at 425.888.2777 or visit http://www.encompassnw.org, where online registration is available.
