Fall Sports Update | Mount Si High School Volleyball

Experience and defense are the team’s strengths this year. Experience comes in the form of five girls with four years of varsity play on the books and a unified goal of claiming a spot in the state championships. “We haven’t gone to state in four years,” said senior Katie McCreadie. “This is really our best chance.”

Head coach: Bonnie Foote

Home field: Mount Si High School Gym, 8651 Meadowbrook Way, S.E., Snoqualmie

Seniors: Courteney Carr, Sophie Click, Cameron Kendall, Katie Larson and Katie McCreadie

A look back: A young team with one senior, the Wildcats finished third in the conference with a 10-6 record overall.

A look ahead: Experience and defense are the team’s strengths this year. Experience comes in the form of five girls with four years of varsity play on the books and a unified goal of claiming a spot in the state championships. “We haven’t gone to state in four years,” said senior Katie McCreadie. “This is really our best chance.”

Defense comes from coach Foote — “We’ve been working really hard on defense.”

Don’t miss this game: Senior night, say the girls — Oct. 12 against Inglemoor, but “Everybody’s tough in KingCo, there is no match that you can think you can just show up for,” says Foote.

It’s going to be a fun year for Mount Si’s volleyball team, led by five seniors and a coach with a wealth of experience between them.

“We’ve got a good group of girls,” says senior Cameron Kendall, “and I think we all shine out in different ways.”

Head coach Bonnie Foote, going into her 17th year with Mount Si (and 22nd year as a teacher) agreed, saying “We are very well rounded.”

With five seniors, five juniors and six sophomores, Foote said the team has depth now like it hasn’t had in a long time.

“We were a powerhouse 3A team,” said Foote, in reference to Mount Si’s transition to 4A three years ago, and she’s excited to see the girls this year playing at a high level.

That drive probably comes from the senior girls, who have played together since middle school and are looking at their last, best chance to get to a state volleyball championship.

“This is going to be my last time playing volleyball, ever,” said Click, who isn’t planning to pursue the sport in college, “and I think it would be a great way to end.”

To get there, they are ready to work hard, and to lead their teammates to do the same.

That means working on their already-strong serving and on their defense.

“It’s all about the eye-work,” said Larson. “We all play together really well, and we’ll interrupt in the middle of a drill when we see things that aren’t working toward our goal,” said Kendall.

The girls won their first game of the season, Sept. 8 against Marysville, 3-0 and competed in the Cascade Tournament at Cascade High School on Saturday.
