Visit and explore Rattlesnake Lake while spotting ospreys, eagles, peregrine falcons and a host of migrating flyers at two family birdwatching classes this month.

Classes are 9 to 11 a.m. on two Saturdays, May 8 and 15, at Cedar River Watershed Education Center, outside of North Bend. Cost is $15.

The expeditions cover the basics of birding, from the hows and wheres to what kind of equipment and books to use. The class is meant to inspire parents and children to take up the hobby and care about conservation.

Woody Wheeler, a naturalist and Audubon Master Birder will lead the classes.

Participants should bring binoculars, a note pad and pencil, clothing for weather, drinking water and sturdy walking shoes.
