Finding a fine fir a family affair

Bundled-up families equipped with small saws and Christmas cheer descended on Crown Tree Farm in search of the perfect fir, and there were no droopy, Charlie Brown-style trees to be found.

The farm sold about 1,500 firs measuring five to 10 feet before shutting down for the year on Sunday, Dec. 14, said co-owner Marty Kester.

Visitors also enjoyed complimentary snacks and hot beverages, and perused gifts in the lot’s “warming station,” where holiday music filled the air and a roaring fire kept hands toasty.
