Squirt a fire hose, witness a mock rescue and tour a fire station at the upcoming Snoqualmie Fire Department open house and safety fair, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 26, at the fire station, located at 37600 S.E. Snoqualmie Parkway.

Residents can meet local fire fighters, take part in fun activities, and get answers to safety questions. Free giveaways and refreshments will be on hand while supplies last.

Snoqualmie firefighters will demonstrate high-angle rescue and vehicle extrication. Children will be able to squirt an actual fire hose, walk through a ‘safety house,’ see the equipment firefighters use, attend a fire safety talk, and take a tour of the fire station. Families can learn about wildland fire dangers, proper electric and gas use, hiking safety, crime prevention, traffic safety, preparing for natural or manmade disasters, and many other topics in the educational event.

The Snoqualmie Police Department, the U.S. Forestry Service, Puget Sound Energy, the Department of Natural Resources, Seattle Mountain Rescue, and Snoqualmie’s emergency response teams will be on hand.

A full schedule of events is available on the city Web site at www.ci.snoqualmie.wa.us under “Local Activities.” The event is sponsored by CenturyTel and the Mount Si High School Culinary Arts Program.
