The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a flood warning for the Snoqualmie and Tolt Rivers Monday morning, as heavy rainfall has hit the region over the previous 48 hours.
The warning, which went into effect Monday at 8:19 a.m, will last until at least Wednesday afternoon. Flooding is expected to be most impactful around the falls and near Carnation. In a Tweet, NWS-Seattle said river heights near Snoqualmie Falls are expected to bring major flooding.
King County opened its flood warning center as of 12:30 p.m, Monday. The Snoqualmie River is in a phase 3 alert, as of Tuesday morning, while the Tolt is in a phase 2. In a phase 3 alert, moderate flooding is possible in low-lying areas and some roadways.
In a statement, the city of Snoqualmie said Millpond Road, Reinig Road (near Snoqualmie Valley Trail Bridge), Northern Street at Pickering Court, and Boalch Avenue near the Mt. Si Golf Course were all closed.
As of 10 a.m. Tuesday, the Snoqualmie River’s three forks was flowing at 25,640 cubic feet per second, while the Tolt was flowing at 4,490 cfs. Flows of both rivers are expected to near phase four alerts Tuesday morning, according to predictions from the Northwest River Forecast Center.
As of 8 a.m. Monday, 2.66 inches of rain had fallen over the previous 42 hours, according to the NWS-Seattle. That’s compared to the just 0.74 inches that fell in the last 25 days. The flood warnings were in effect through Wednesday (after press time).
NWS is expected to release an update at 4:15 a.m. Tuesday. This story will be updated.
