Mount Si Senior Center in North Bend and the Sno-Valley Senior Center in Carnation managed to receive some funding from King County for 2010.

The King County Council approved $24,500 in funds for the North Bend center, as well as funding for the Carnation center, in budget decisions Monday, Nov. 23.

King County Councilwoman Kathy Lambert told the Valley Record that the county’s reduced budget made getting funds for the centers difficult. Most centers in the county did not receive any funds — and next year’s outlook looks even bleaker.

“I don’t think there will be any that get any next year,” Lambert said. “We’ve got to cut as much again next year.”

There’s not much left to cut in the Human Services budget, according to Lambert.

“The general fund is so limited,” she said. Prospects for local senior centers could improve if the economy does — local sales tax proceeds are an important part of the county’s general fund.
