Girl Scout Kirsten Wunder, a senior at Mount Si High School, was honored at a ceremony on Saturday, May 2, for achieving the Gold Award, Scouting’s highest honor.

To achieve the award, Wunder completed 19 badges, and more than 160 hours of community service in a leadership position, and held a part-time job to fulfill Gold Award requirements.

Wunder’s project, which took over 70 hours to complete, was designing and building two model boxcars, one import car and one export car, for the Northwest Railway Museum, each three feet long, one foot high, and one foot deep.

She also made models of the major imports and exports of the Valley in the early 1900s. Wunder used the boxcars and model goods to conduct a lesson on the history of imports and exports of the Snoqualmie Valley to children, ranging in age from toddlers to teens, during the School Train event at the museum. She explained the significance of each import and export, along with the current status of goods, locally and statewide.
