High school crowding eases as Wildcat Court opens

Relieving the pressure on packed hallways and a crowded commons, Mount Si High School opened the long-awaited Wildcat Court earlier this month.

Four months in the making, the new multi-purpose area has already reduced crowding in busy core areas, said Mount Si Principal Randy Taylor.

Discovering the internal courtyard after last year’s flood in January, the district found it to be a solution to the high school’s congested hallways.

The court has doubled the school’s lunchroom and multi-purpose space to an additional 6,000 square feet.

“It’s a great addition and has reduced the pressure of students trying to find a place to go for lunch,” Taylor said.

Lit by rows of ceiling-level windows, the court also provides a shortcut for students making their way through the high school’s square-shaped east wing.

“It’s really bright and less crowded,” said sophomore Brooke Bonner. “We don’t have to eat in the hallways, and it’s also easier to get to classes because we don’t have to walk all the way around.”

Also benefitting the DECA program, the court has given them a new classroom and merchandising area which accompanies the Wildcat Court Cafe.
