High school, musical: Teen pop, metal bands to play at Battle of the Bands

Student bands include 'Plus Tax' girl pop, 'Maggie and the Death Cats' metal

Students can jump, shake and scream as Mount Si High School presents the second annual Battle of the Bands concert, 7 p.m. Saturday Dec. 12, at Si View Community Center.

A collaboration between the Mount Si Key Club and Snoqualmie Valley Kawanis, the event will feature six bands formed by Mount Si students.

“They’re all local bands and a lot have grown to fame in the Valley,” said Alisha Palmer, the Key Club’s Battle of the Bands coordinator.

Kiwanis members will help out by providing chaperones.

Set to perform are a girl pop band called Plus Tax, several heavy metal bands including Deceased and Maggie and the Death Cats, a rock metal band called Safeties Off.

The concert is a fun way to listen to local bands, and students will know the people who are playing, according to Palmer.

“The different varieties of bands are the best part,” she said.

Last year, all proceeds from the show went towards buying microwaves for the high school. The benefit for Saturday’s show is still being worked out.

“We’ll collect the money first and ask the Key Club what they want to do with it,” Palmer said.

The concert will last about three hours. All attendees must have a student I.D. and tickets are $5. Si View Community Center is located at 400 S.E. Orchard Dr., North Bend.
