If kids cooked holiday dinners

The children at Mountain Valley Montessori School in North Bend are budding gourmet cooks and party planners. If these children were hosting a holiday party, here are some special dishes they'd like to put on the table.

Staff asked, “What would you prepare for a special holiday dinner with friends and family?”

Children answered (teacher responses are in parentheses):

Aahir, 4: How about chickens? I want aaloo (potatoes), I have it at home, that’s what I need.

Andrew, 4: I like pepperoni pizza, that’s what I would eat … cheese pizza, too. Spaghetti, chicken dinosaurs, steak, bacon and that’s all. Wait, and ice cream, that’s a dessert … and that’s about it.

Astrid, 3: I can’t cook, though? I’d give them a special surprise for dinner … I’d give them flowers, or something … white flowers or something … or something else better. I like tofu. I like celery and carrots and marshmallows … are marshmallows good? Cakes and tofu and a surprise and ice cream is good, too. Do those sound like yummy things, Katy? (Yes.) That’s all … isn’t that a lot of food?

Audrey, 5: Strawberries, bananas, blueberries and raspberries, blackberries, pumpkin pie. Hmmm … oranges, no wait … no oranges, maybe some corn-dogs. I think that’s it.

Benzi, 3: Soup … chicken noodle soup. Macaroni and cheese. Dessert. (Do you have any favorites?) Soup.
