The Tanner Electric Cooperative, which provides power to several Snoqualmie Valley communities, just announced a $500 college scholarship for a Valley graduate.

Scholarships are available to graduating seniors who are children of Tanner Electric Cooperative members.

Three students will be selected, one each from the North Bend, Ames Lake, and Anderson Island service areas.

The cooperative sees part of its role as supporting Valley organizations and providing learning opportunities for young people.

A scholarship committee will review the applications and select one recipient for each service area. Winners will be announced at the annual meetings in May. Applications should be completed and turned in to school counselors or the Tanner office by March 27.

To apply, students should visit the Tanner Electric Web site, www.tannerelectric.coop, or contact their school counseling office.

Encompass has break camps

Parents who are looking for a fun learning opportunity for young children ages 2 to 6 over the winter school break can sign them up for an Encompass break camp.

For 2- to 3-year-olds, the camp theme will be “Winter Wonderland.” Campers will discover how polar bears stay warm and will make a snow globe. This camp runs 9 a.m. to noon, Tuesday through Thursday, Feb. 17 to 19.

Those 3-and-a-half to 6 years old will explore the theme “Healthy Chefs,” trying new foods while preparing and eating their own creations. This camp runs 9 a.m. to noon, Tuesday through Friday, Feb. 17 to 20.

Both camps have a $75 tuition and include snacks and drinks. For “Healthy Chefs,” extended care is available noon to 1 p.m. for $5 a day or $15 for all four days.

The camps will be held at the Encompass Main Campus, 1407 Boalch Ave. N.W. in North Bend. To register, call (425) 888-2777.
