Students earn AP test honors

More than 20 Mount Si High School students earned honors in the recent round of AP, or Advanced Placement, testing.

The National College Board recognizes students for their outstanding academic performance on the exams. AP tests are scored on a one-to-five scale, with one being the lowest possible score and five being the highest possible score.

The AP Scholar Award is granted to students who received grades of three or higher on three or more AP exams. From the classes of 2008 and 2009, students Colin Alexander, Thomas Appleseth, Alexander Bolves, Rachel Brun, Bobbie Buzzell, Sean Byrnes, Kyle Clark, Jacqueline Ferland, Matthew Fujimoto, Amy Grantham, Avery Hamann, Kyle Hansen-Kahn, Tamara Hoeth, Quinn Hopkins, Megan Mabel, Marissa Pleasants, Kimberly Sanders, Zachary Whetsel, Laura White, and Katherine Woolsey earned the scholars award.

The AP Scholar with Honor Award is granted to students who receive an average grade of at least 3.25 on all AP exams taken, and grades of three or higher on four or more of these exams. Mount Si High School students from the class of 2008 that earned the award include Shino Asanuma, Kenneth James, Britta Nelson, Erika Strine, Owen Strom, Kelsey Tarp, and Haley Williamson.

The AP Scholar with Distinction Award is granted to students who receive an average grade of an least 3.5 on all AP exams taken, and grades of three or higher on five or more of these exams. Two Mount Si High School students from the class of 2008 earned this prestigious award: Benjamin Joselyn and Ian Smith.

Hands to mark 50th anniversary

The children and grandchildren of Max and Pat Hand, formerly of North Bend, currently residents of Oroville, Wash., would like to invite family and friends to a celebration in honor of their 50th wedding anniversary. The open house is 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, at American Legion Post No. 84.

Max and Pat were married Dec. 30, 1958 in Couer d’Alene, Idaho.
